About Us

Sherbrooke U3A began on the 12th September, 2007.   A Public Meeting was held at the Tecoma Uniting Church, where expressions of interest were canvassed.

More than 60 people attended the meeting and from this group 35 membership applications were taken and a committee was formed. A class programme was organised and Sherbrooke U3A was up and running.

Initially classes were held in local halls. The Shire of Yarra Ranges was approached as to a suitable site for an office. Eventually a vacant room in the Upwey Seniors Community Hall was made available with the consent of the Upwey Senior Citizens.

Some classes are held at the Upwey Seniors Community Hall, some at Tecoma Uniting Church and various other venues.

Sherbrooke U3A acknowledges the ongoing support of the Shire of Yarra Ranges.

VOLUNTEERING:

U3A Sherbrooke is run entirely by volunteers. We have no paid employees. All tutoring and management is done by volunteers. In return for our minimal subscription, you are encouraged to volunteer in one way or another.

One way is tutoring or running a special-interest group. Many tutors are members who have practised or taught their subject professionally for some years before retirement. Others are enthusiasts who are keen to share knowledge of their favourite hobby, pastime, or intellectual pursuit.
